A small gesture for others

A couple weeks ago, on a Sunday morning, I did the “spring cleaning” which means a lot of sorting and storage.  I got out my spring clothes from the wardrobe and sorted out the winter clothes that I do not want to keep for next year and also some accessories that I never wear and decorative objects that I no longer want.

I selected all the things that I wanted to take to Caritas. I do this twice a year and this time I thought it was worthy of a mention here. So, my dear readers living in and around Geneva, instead of selling your things second-hand or throwing them into the recycling bin, please do not hesitate to make a gesture for those who are in need by giving your unwanted stuff away to Caritas.

Returning to my story, after all the uncluttering I prepared a Greek yogurt cake as a reward for all my efforts...hahaha...

It was a very easy, fast and delicious cake. Even though it was slightly overbaked, it was really tasty. Accompanied with a pot of Ceylon Orange Pekoe loose black tea, bought last time I was in Convent Garden at the Tea House.

I thank you so much for being here and reading this little message and wish you all a Happy and Peaceful Easter.

    1. Yes Rebecca, it's important to be generous with those in need. In Africa, where my dad came from, they say "one hand washes the other".

  4. Também tenho esse hábito (vai ser este fim-de-semana).
E os nossos pequenos gestos, as nossas pequenas dádivas, podem fazer uma grande diferença na vida de outras pessoas.

  7. What a good idea! I'm pleased to say that the clothes recycling box I use near home shares what it collects with Caritas and the Red Cross. This is a great time of the year for a clearout, too.

  9. Giving old books unwanted things to charitable organizations is a great thing to do.

Though I am far from Geneva we have used book and clothing outlets locally that take donations. I try to support the book outlets by also buying used books from them. All proceeds go to charity.

    The cake looks great!

    Happy Easter!

  13. I also donate stuff to charity. It helps people in need and helps declutter the house. Above all, it leaves the donor with a good feeling.

  17. Donating unwanted goods to charity helps both people and the environment! I'm too lazy to sell things second-hand (my stuff isn't worth the effort. HA!) so I'd rather pass it on someone in need. I wished that I could sample a slice of your cake with a cup of tea.

    Happy Easter!
