Early January, I decided to clean out my
heavy photo albums, full of Kodak photos. Yes, before it was like that,
remember? We took pictures with film and, once the roll was finished, we gave
it to a photo shop to be developed.
In short, to come back to my story, I had
a lot of trouble getting rid of these photos. My passion for travelling started
very early, it’s in my roots. You could say that travelling is like breathing
in my multicultural family.
That said, with age, my craze for
travelling has cooled. 12 hour flights, plus stress at airports and the hassle
of organising the whole trip are things that I can only face once a year now,
instead of four times a year as I used to do.
What I retain from every trip I have made
is the beauty of the country I visited, its culture and customs and the people
I met, not to mention the culinary specialties and landscapes. I captured this
beauty with my very old non-digital film camera. This is where my passion for
photography comes from.
I was overcome with emotion as I looked at
these souvenirs of my travels and I remembered lots of details. Travelling for
me means always taking time to explore places calmly, at length and
passionately. Like when you fall in love and you discover your partner every
day a little more...
Here is a post that filled me with joy to
compile. These pictures were chosen with difficulty among many. And, in case
you want to know, no, I could not lighten my big photo box.
MOROCCO
1. The “guerrab” or water carrier in
Djemaa el Fna Square, Marrakesh
2. Inside the Medina - I love those
narrows alleys of Marrakech
3. Berber village in the High Atlas
BOAVISTA, CAPE VERDE
1. Sand dunes on Chaves Beach
2. On top of the sand dunes
SAL, CAPE VERDE
1. My driver and guide
2. Very early in the morning when the
fishermen arrive
3. Fruit seller (I adore this photo)
NASSAU, BAHAMAS
1. Atlantis Paradise Island, probably the
most spectacular hotel where I have stayed to date
2. Sunday parade on the Bay Street, Nassau
MALDIVES
1. The Kanuhura Resort, Maldives
2. Very tanned and pensive...
DUBAI, UAE
1. Impressive city, but not my cup of tea
- too much glitter...
2. The Ritz-Carlton Jumeirah Beach, early
morning swimming under the cascade
PORTO, PORTUGAL
1. Dom-Luís Bridge
2. Porto Ribeira is the historical centre
of Porto
3. Lello bookstore, ranked among the 10
most beautiful bookstores in the world
MACAU
1. The ruins of Saint Paul
2. View from the bay - you can see the
Grand Lisboa skyscraper that resembles a lotus leaf
LA VALLETTA, MALTA
1. La Valletta
2. Fort Saint Elmo
THAILAND
1. Golden Buddha statues in Wat Po,
Bangkok
2. Woman resting in Bangkok’s floating
markets
MONTSERRAT, SPAIN
1. Montserrat is a mountain range near
Barcelona. The rocks have very peculiar shapes that reminded me of giant stone
figures
2. Montserrat Monastery near Barcelona,
the abbey houses the black virgin of Montserrat, patron saint of Catalonia
LAC DES QUATRE-CANTONS, SWITZERLAND
1. Lake Lucerne is a glacial lake in
central Switzerland. It is 38 kilometres long. If I were to name my favourite
place in Switzerland, it would no doubt be here. A breath-taking beauty spot
close to Lucerne.
2. The mountain, the huts, the cows (I
love farm animals and especially cows ... aren't they really beautiful?)
Oh, this photo melts my heart, my little
Labrador puppy on the day I went to get him. He was the most wonderful birthday
present!
Lovely memories. Grandma C and I share your view about Dubai. :-)
ReplyDeleteArthur, thank you for taking the time to read the post and leave a comment.
DeleteIs this you, with Sweetheart? You guys look good together :D
ReplyDeleteWow!! You sound like the luckiest person on earth to travel the world like you do. I'm a fan of Morocco and I love Marrakech enormously. Boavista must be a dream destination. Never heard of this country. I like these landscapes and I love Africa.
Love your posts and stories! :D
Oh, you are far too kind, Rebecca :)
DeleteYou know, I've only been to Cape Verde twice, but I would love to go there again and explore the other islands!
Wow!! I enjoyed drinking my morning coffee and watching your photo souvenirs. Your posts take a lot of time to put together, and I appreciate it. This post reaffirms my belief that the world is filled with wonderful places. And of course, the animals were so cute. I know how much you love those creatures.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing more about yourself.
That's such a sweet thing to say, Charles :)
DeleteThanks for being such a kind person.

Olá Rui, o correio electrónico do meu blog é o seguinte:
It is nice to find old pictures.
ReplyDeleteSadly, before I met my wife, I took few and some of those that I had were lost.
I would also become nostalgic for old photos and I also would not get rid of any.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts with us :)
DeleteYou are such a considerate person, Brian.
Bises :)
DeleteWhat a great series of memories. I, too, am submerged by old photo albums. The picture that strikes me the most is the church by the lake. I love the ripples in the water and the setting is idyllically Swiss.
ReplyDeleteThank you very much Cresta Bear :) This part of Switzerland is worth a visit :)
DeleteOh wow, this post is absolutely packed full with memories - all of which look to be filled with happiness! You've travelled to so many places and I really love the photography; each image looks so warm :) Some of the architecture shown is so dreamy and you seriously have such an amazing bikini body!

Hello Gaby! Indeed, these are memorable memories... I just noticed that I forgot to add the UK. I spent very beautiful years of my life there.
DeleteI spent beautiful years in London and I would not trade those years for anything else.
P.S. Thanks for the "bikini body" compliment.
This post is so lovely and the pics are so mesmerizing..xx
ReplyDeleteThanks a million, Amira :)
DeleteThank you for sharing these fantastic photos. My wanderlust also diminished with age. Since I've lost my travel mojo, I have to live vicariously through bloggers like you!
ReplyDeleteYes, it's the same for me. I follow a few lifestyle bloggers who share the treasures of their beautiful country - from secluded spots to luxury places - and they are great photographers. Thank you for your kind words, Margie :)
DeleteWhat great pictures to capture your adventures. I can imagine just how many you have! My husband is the photo-taker in the family and would understand the difficulty in lightening the load. I really admire your zest for travel - embracing diversity, seeing and experiencing different cultures is a beautiful thing. I really love that you prefer to take time to explore calmly. I am a homebody but my ideal trip is not having a hectic schedule but taking time to slowly soak it in.
ReplyDeletePS - We used to go to the Bahamas/Atlantis during the summer (been there 4x, I think...it is a very convenient flight when the little one was much younger)! Wouldn't it be funny if we were once there at the same time! : )
Hello dearest! Your husband takes pictures worthy of cookbooks. Give him my congratulations. Wow!! Four times in the Bahamas!!! I visited the Bahamas only once, we had a marvellous two weeks at the Atlantis Paradise Island hotel, in 1997. Atlantis is a city in itself. During my stay, I met so many nice people. We did a few awesome things together. we went shopping in Nassau (the jewelry was beautiful and not too expensive). We visited must-see attractions. We had conch in many different ways - I was fond of conch fritters with spicy dipping sauce... It is amazing how you can get close to people when you are staying in the same hotel.
DeleteYeah, Monica, it would have been funny to meet you there... I'm sure we would have a lot to say to each other.
DeleteUm post absolutamente deslumbrante!
Tens a máquina e o talento raro.
DeleteGrazie mille Marco Lucca!!
DeleteSo many beautiful destinations and memories...I enjoyed this post very much! :-)
ReplyDeleteThank you very much, Carmen. I'm glad you enjoyed this post :)
DeleteI'm impressed by these photos dear! You visited wonderful places, Maladives are on my wishlist :-)Happy weekend :-)
ReplyDeleteThank you, Alice!! Oh really? I enjoyed immensely and went twice. The Kanuhura island resort is idyllic for a romantic vacation. Its sea-moored and secluded villas are breathtaking. I hope you make that trip one day. Have a great weekend :)
DeleteYou have some wonderful memories here. It was fun seeing you from the past. :-)
ReplyDeleteThank you very much, Monica :)

DeleteOf course I love the Labradors best!! Your travels are very impressive. Many of these places I must go to! Every photograph you have here seems to tell a story; how lovely. Of all these places: I've been to one: Paradise Island, the Bahamas. lovely place to get a pina colada. I've been there a few times.
