Heidi country

What do you think of when you hear the name Heidi?

When I hear that name an image comes to mind...The little orphan who lives with her grandfather in a pasture somewhere in the canton of Grisons here in Switzerland. Throughout my childhood I watched the cartoon television series Heidi, as well as Marco.

These images that I leave you here, photographed somewhere in Switzerland, this summer, from a secluded and authentic place, remind me each time of Heidi country: the pastures, the rugged and picturesque world of the mountains...

I hope the photographs speak for themselves, even if they are far from reflecting what I felt for real ... I had to show them to you.

By the way, Heidi is a work of fiction for children by the Swiss author Johanna Spyri

Have a lovely week my darlings!

Swiss National Day - August 1st

The “Fête Nationale Suisse” on August 1st is the national holiday of Switzerland. And that means three weeks of festivities that attracts around 3 million visitors.

The Geneva celebrations include hundreds of concerts and activities, a huge funfair, more than 200 food stalls, as well as arts and crafts stands… It is all crowned by one of the world’s most spectacular musical firework displays that lasts about 55 minutes.

This time I missed both the opening fireworks display of the Fêtes de Genève on August 1st (I was in London) and the closing fireworks on August 8th, but I can tell you that they were spectacular. During this time of the year Geneva is awesome; you don't know where to turn your head, there are so many wonders in Geneva’s Wonderland...Now you all know when to pay us a visit.

A million apologies for not showing my fireworks photos…I don’t have any.

Best Desserts in Geneva - Martel

Series 1 - 3rd quarter 2015
This post celebrates my favourite desserts from a cafe/bakery/pastry shop in Geneva. I have only documented delicacies here that I have tried personally (and many times...).

For this first series, I’ll start with Martel in Carouge, a company that exists since 1818. Today, it has grown to a chain of 8 shops or tea rooms - all with exquisite pastries!

1. Saint-Honoré
On a circular base of  puff pastry stands a ring of choux pastry filled with Chiboust cream and finished with whipped cream. The choux puffs are dipped in caramelized sugar and attached side by side.

2. Opéra
Layers of almond sponge cake soaked in coffee syrup, alternating with ganache and coffee buttercream, and covered in a chocolate glaze.

3. Raspberry Mille-Feuilles
Three layers of puff pastry alternating with two layers of whipped crème pâtissière and fresh raspberries. The top pastry layer is dusted with confectioner's sugar.

4. Dacquoise Pistachio with Raspberry and Passion Fruit Mousses
A base of pistachio cake completed with layers of raspberry mousse and passion fruit mousses.

5. Symphony cake
A shortbread cake with red fruit coulis, filled with chestnut cream.

6. Lemon tart
A pastry case with an intense lemon cream filling.

A big thank you to Stéphanie for allowing me to photograph these delights.
