My school friend M. and I had a memorable afternoon tea at The Royal
Horseguards Hotel. It's the finest I have ever had. After having a look around
this beautiful Victorian hotel, we headed to "The Lounge", where the
tea is served. The elegant room, the beautiful crockery, the friendly staff,
the warm atmosphere and all the goodies made it memorable.
The hardest thing was to decide what to choose from the extensive menu.
The waiter brought a glass of Taittinger Champagne. We chose tea from a large
selection. M. had their signature tea, a unique blend leaf tea called
“Strawberries & Cream”. I opted for
the Sapphire Earl Grey. After, we started our feast: a delicious assortment of
finger sandwiches and mini burgers: ham and cheese, smoked salmon and classic
cucumber. The waiter refilled our plates no less than three times with these small
and ever so delicious sandwiches.
We had warm, freshly baked plain scones, homemade strawberry preserve
and Cornish clotted cream. We also had delicious handmade mini cakes and
delicate pastries: dark chocolate cake, red fruit macaroon, lime tartlet, exotic
fruits terrine. Each of these were exquisite delights.
The warm welcome was much appreciated as it was my birthday. The waiters
sang “Happy birthday to you”, I blew out a candle and made a wish. Although I
shouldn’t, I can tell you that I wished to return soon to enjoy another
afternoon tea at this splendid venue with its great staff. We really enjoyed
the moment to the full.

goodies. You are welcome!
That's not afternoon tea, that's an afternoon feast! I love the little birthday cake and candle!
ReplyDeleteTotally agree with you... I can tell you that the chocolate cake was DIVINE, but it was for a special occasion ;-)
ReplyDeleteOh yes! There so much to learn about tea! I've only recently been discovering how complex and how much variety there is. Looks like a lovely place.
ReplyDeleteIndeed, it is a complex subject and the more I learn, the more I feel ignorant. But the main thing is that I enjoy tasting them....It is a LOVELY place :-)
ReplyDeleteQuestion, pourquoi couper la tête dans la photo? Je suis curieux de savoir???
ReplyDeleteRien de grave...je n'exposerai jamais mon entourage proche (amis et famille).
